毛主席诞辰124周年！一起缅怀这位伟人

　　People from all over China have traveled to Shaoshan, birthplace of Mao Zedong in Central China’s Hunan Province, ahead of the 124th anniversary of Mao’s birthday on December 26, triggering a discussion about Mao’s legacy.

　　12月26日毛泽东生日第124个周年庆之前，来自全国各地的人们去了毛主席的出生地——华中湖南省韶山，这引起了人们关于他的遗产的讨论。

　　Born on December 26, 1893, Mao led the Communist Party of China in the revolution that eventually established the People’s Republic of China. Mao is regarded as one of the most important figures in modern Chinese history.

　　毛主席生于1893年12月26日，他在革命中领导了中国共产党，最终建立了中华人民共和国。他被视为中国现代史上最重要的人物之一。

　　More activities happened across China to celebrate the anniversary of Mao’s birth.

　　Some college students also attended the performance. Shang Minghai, a student from Jilin University of Arts, said that students should commemorate Mao to keep up the revolutionary spirit of the older generation.

　　Mao’s supporters complain about young people’s enthusiasm for celebrating Western holidays like Halloween and Christmas, which falls one day before Mao’s birthday.

　　Many people, especially seniors in China, thank Mao for his contribution in founding New China and they attribute China’s current achievements to Mao’s efforts in strengthening industrialization and military power.

　　Some of Mao’s supporters share a concern about the income gap between the rich and the poor. Mao’s thoughts emphasized social equality, which could offer insight into current social problems.
